Newly recruited patent attorneys so far this year

Sofia Willquist, European Patent Attorney, Stockholm/Linköping
Areas of practice: Chemical and Biotechnology, Materials Engineering, Medical Engineering, Mechanics and Image Processing
“I have a strong background in broad areas of practice with a focus on European patent law, and also bring with me both a board and investor perspective. I hope to contribute with a strategic approach to IP rights, a large local and international network. I appreciate working close to my clients, have a dialogue about their business and find ways to secure their IP rights so that they can be more successful. However, it is not always a matter of actually obtaining a granted patent, since there might be many other considerations to take into account. I like the feeling of having reached the client, that they themselves begin to see the value in their rights and think in new ways around their business and their development work. From an intellectual perspective, it is of course always exciting to immerse into a really tricky infringement case, of course preferably to get a competitor’s patent revoked, but one of the most fun things I have done so far is to defend a client in a large Swedish infringement case – and win.”

Mark Heinrich, Certified German Patentassessor, Lund
Areas of practice: Automotive industry, Mechanical systems, Manufacturing and assembly processes
“To me, Ström & Gulliksson feels like a modern and open employer where collaboration is valued. We have a community and consensus on how we should work. Actively recruiting a German patent attorney shows that Ström & Gulliksson thinks outside the box and has ambitions to provide its customers with a comprehensive service with cutting-edge expertise. I work with a holistic approach, have an international perspective, like to think interdisciplinary and outside the box. I hope that my experiences as a development engineer in the industry and as a German patent lawyer can add new perspectives to Ström & Gulliksson and our clients. I also look forward to the opportunity to be involved in disputes and infringement cases together with Advokatbyrån Gulliksson.”

Mathilda Janson, Patent Attorney, Malmö
Areas of practice: Medical technology, Mechanics, Biomechanics, Ergonomics, Materials technology
“At Ström & Gulliksson, I look forward to getting closer to inventors and the basic ideas in themselves. In my previous role as a patent engineer at the Swedish Patent and Registration Office, I have seen and reviewed a large number of different applications. I bring with me the experience of having seen a variety of strategies and different approaches and I think that will benefit my clients’ applications. Both in the writing of the application itself and in order for them to have the right scope of protection for their inventions. Doing searches, finding classes and devising new approaches is exciting. It requires accuracy and a detailed thinking but also the ability to think outside the box. In the patent process itself, I am also interested in patent law and look forward to working more with European patent law.”

Thomas Tholin, European Patent Attorney, Stockholm
Areas of practice: Digital solutions, Software, Electronics, Telecommunications
“I have more than 20 years of experience from the patent area and have worked as a patent examiner, patent attorney and patent engineer in the industry. It has given me good insight and understanding of what is required to get a broad protection and specialist knowledge about the actual design of patent applications. In my assignments, I start from the simple questions of why, what and how to lay the foundation for how the patent application should be designed for maximum protection and the greatest business value. At Ström & Gulliksson I look forward to open, clear dialogues with our clients and to deliver high quality together with my colleagues.”
