Ström & Gulliksson strengthens the legal foundations for foodtech innovation through FoodWorks
Ström & Gulliksson is proud to be represented in the advisor network at FoodWorks – Foodtech Hub & Labs in Lund, an environment where research-driven companies, entrepreneurs, and industry expertise come together within foodtech.
Through the advisor network, Magnus Berglund and Maria Weineisen from Ström & Gulliksson contribute specialised expertise in patent law and intellectual property, with a focus on food, chemistry, and life sciences. Their role is to support companies in identifying, structuring, and protecting innovation in a way that enables growth, investment, and long-term market establishment.
“In foodtech, it is often crucial that intellectual property matters are addressed early and strategically. A well-considered patent strategy can be a prerequisite for both commercialisation and collaboration with industrial partners,” says Magnus Berglund, Equity Partner and European Patent Attorney at Ström & Gulliksson.
Magnus has extensive experience working with complex innovations at the intersection of research and business. With a background in chemical engineering and organic chemistry, he has supported companies with patent strategies for, among other things, functional foods, ingredients, and food supplements, and has represented clients in opposition and dispute proceedings. His work is characterised by analytical rigour and a clear commercial perspective.
“Our advice is not only about what can be protected from a legal standpoint, but about how protection best supports a company’s long-term objectives. That requires both technical understanding and the ability to challenge assumptions,” says Maria Weineisen, European Patent Attorney at Ström & Gulliksson.
Maria has a scientific background in molecular medicine and chemical engineering and works closely with companies in both early and growth stages. She has extensive experience in patenting within areas such as food supplements, microorganisms, cereal fractionation, and solutions related to sustainable food production. Her advisory work is characterised by careful analysis and a practical approach, with a focus on creating clarity in complex matters.
FoodWorks provides a structure where companies gain access to laboratory environments and specialised expertise without traditional barriers. For Ström & Gulliksson, the engagement is a natural way to contribute legal expertise in a setting where research is translated into commercial solutions.
